Scene reconstruction
Paintings from the series "Scene reconstruction" displayed in the show of the same name at Galería Bicentenario, Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho, Santiago, Chile. December 2013.
Through the language of painting he shows particular situations with specific date and time. The palpable atmosphere present in the scenes describes an interest in the belonging of every element.
If we want to know the histories hidden on the paintings of Gaspar Alvarez, the questions refer to an event, an action or a specific movement; what happened, who was there, in what place, what smell or temperature, what was the air that the characters breathed.
In the paintings of Gaspar Alvarez the characters refer to an event, which, if we put ourselves in their vigilante spot, guide us to an unnatural curiosity to investigate and read the scene. We'll never know what happened in the incident that is depicted, so our gaze focuses on the colors, the spaces, the poses and the relations between figure and background, as if it was the soul of the image. By this guidance, the artist seduces the viewer, achieving strong and focalized works that pay homage only to the painting itself.
